A collection of stories, some first drafted during the pandemic. I always wanted to try horror writing, to see if it would stretch me in my other work. I think it has. I felt able to tackle subjects I would not have in regular fiction.
“A decade of nightmares distilled into one unforgettable collection — unsettling, witty, and quietly profound.”
“O.S. King turns the mundane into horror with precision. Every story feels like waking up mid-dream and realising it’s real.”

“Who says you can’t chase a killer while wearing flannel pyjamas and a feather boa?”
Village charm. Hidden malice. A killer on the loose. When novelist and amateur sleuth Emerson Chopra gets a distress call from her activist sister, she trades city bustle for a village so peaceful, its biggest concern is withering dahlias. Thrust into a case that’s part murder mystery, part existential farce, Emerson finds herself surrounded by eccentric locals nursing simmering grudges. No detective manual could ever prepare her for this level of absurdity. But she’s not the only one on the case. A village cat and dog, each with their own cryptic insights, seem to be one step ahead of both sleuth and killer.
About writing Murder, You Say?
Started this book during the third wave of COVID-19 and was thinking about my dog, who passed away a while ago. Hence, the dog in the book. Then I got a cat – so there is a cat in the book. Then I shelved the book and moved on to other things. When I came back to it this year, it became the second Emerson Chopra Mystery! It was amazing how everything just came together. I really enjoyed writing and splicing together this book. It was fulfilling imagining the lives of these characters and I enjoyed all of them. I think this book helped me consider how things are always in shades of grey.

“Isolation. Deceit. And one sleuth sharp enough to cut through both.”
At an exclusive island resort, paradise is not as it seems. Queer sleuth Emerson Chopra unravels a killer’s web where every guest hides a secret – and the deadliest lies wear polite smiles. Sharp wit. Twists that sting.
About writing Murder, You Guess?
As a first iteration, this book was called Murder at the Resort. It was my first novel and I didn’t have a budget for an editor or designer (still don’t). But, I wanted to try anyway. I wanted to give it a go. Then, after a while I decided to pull the first version and edit it myself. I also wanted to redesign the cover to match the second Emerson Chopra book. I am not sure when I will be releasing this new version as I am working on lots of other projects at the moment.

Crossing continents, genders, and generational wounds, these characters don’t just chase fame—they become its fuel and they are confronted with hard choices about their values.
