I have just published Ego’s Grave as an e-book and print. I have been working on surreal horror stories, some with LGBTQ+ themes, to explore intersections of culture, class, identity, heritage, and more. It is hard to write horror/unsettling tales, because of the very real horrors faced by so many people everyday. For example LGBTQ+ rights remain under threat globally, people are murdered for being LGBTQ+, and there are very few countries where LGBTQ+ people have full equal rights to heterosexual people, although there are 38 countries where same-sex marriage is legal. The threat to our rights is always present along with discrimination within families, within workplaces, and in private spaces. I recently read about the Malaysian government calling LGBTQ+ people ‘deviants’.
I have found that I can explore emotions and LGBTQ+ identity (including intersections with race, class, disability etc.) more freely using horror (especially surreal horror).
As with my other books, I will make this a free download a year after publication.
